Mrs Inglis’s Messages

Hello Beacy,

We made it!  Tomorrow is the last day of term 3 and then we all have two weeks of school holidays – well-deserved for everyone.  I was hoping we would know more about term 4 but we are going to have to wait until Sunday to hear what the plan is.  We will communicate with our families before term 4 commences to how this will look for Beaconsfield Primary School.

I know we are all disappointed that we ended up with nearly all of term 3 in flexible and remote learning but everyone has done a great job under the challenging situation.  I have been privileged to meet with some of our captains during the term and I am so amazed when I hear of how they are dealing with the situation they are in – they show such great resilience.  Your children are amazing and you should be so proud of them and this is evident by seeing them in the zooms, watching their work and comments coming through on Seesaw and hearing from the teachers around their learning and wellbeing.  Our students have made a great effort.  I know it has not been good for all our students and I acknowledge that some days are better than others.  Please take these two weeks to reset and hopefully by being on ‘school holidays’ can give our students and families the opportunity to get us all ready to tackle term 4.

Thank you to our teachers for their efforts to work with all our families and to find a model that can accommodate the different households and circumstances of our community.  Our teachers work hard to differentiate the learning to meet the needs of their students, work with individuals, small groups, classes and whole cohorts in zooms and to ensure that we are supporting the wellbeing of our students.  Whilst we would all love to have all our students back on-site, our teachers have been successful in making an engaging and achievable flexible and remote learning program for their students.

Enjoy the last day of term as our Sports Dress Up day.  We have some finals happening over the holidays and I wish all the Victorian teams all the best – I would really love to see Melbourne FC win a grand final but to have two Victorian teams in the grand final is a pretty awesome result and either team deserves the victory.  Also, good luck to the Melbourne Storm. I know many of our students and families support these teams.

Take a break Beacy and see you next term (hopefully it is not far away that we can see our students back on-site).

From Mrs A

I hope you all take the time to have a good break with your families. Celebrate your successes whether they be big or small, and take the time to stop and enjoy this beautiful weather we have been having. Hopefully we will all be back on site together very soon.

Don’t forget to hug your loved ones.

From Mr Buckingham

After a term of many ups and downs we have made it to the holidays. The resilience, creativity and spirit our school shows is truly amazing. It has been a pleasure each day flicking through Seesaw posts and witnessing the way families have adapted and worked through a routine that works for them.

The holidays are a great chance to disconnect from technology where you can and enjoy the beautiful weather we are having. My 5-year-old daughter has planned a whole heap of activities for our family to complete this holidays that include, backyard treasure hunts, camp outs, cubby building, and every fantasy role play you can imagine.

If you are looking for something to do on those rainy days:

Zoos Victoria have a range of Live Cams set up showing animal enclosures and feeding times

https://www.zoo.org.au/animals-at-home/

Museums Victoria have virtual tours of their exhibits

I hope you all have a restful and well-deserved holidays.

Look after yourselves,

Hello Beacy,

Yesterday we heard that the flexible and remote learning will continue until the end of term 3 and we will hear later as to what term 4 will look like.  As soon as we are informed, we will communicate with our community.  I acknowledge that we (staff, student and parents) would all love to have our students back onsite and school looking ‘normal’ but I have faith that our community will be able to make the best of the situation we are in and we will all get through this together.

I encourage you to reach out and utilise your supports if you are struggling at this time and if you are coping well, reach out to someone to help lift and support them. I make sure I privilege my supports and take the time to ‘check in’ with how I am going to ensure that I am here for my family and the Beacy community.

During these time when I am being challenged, watching the Paralympians has highlighted to me the resilience and perseverance of these amazing people.

Fresh Air Challenge

How are you going with the challenge?  We put together the Fresh Air Challenge to support everyone’s wellbeing and to motivate our students to get outside as we know this has such great benefits for us. I hope your child/ren are getting outside and enjoying the fresh air.  We know that spending time outside is a simple thing we can do to improve our mental wellbeing.  The House Captains did a great job at showing a lot of different ideas of what we can do outside – I hope this inspired your family!  Good luck with the challenge.

Thank you

The process for the selection of Beaconsfield Primary School’s next principal is complete and I am very excited to have been chosen by the panel and accepted by school council and the Department of Education and Training.  I have a long history with Beaconsfield Primary, having completed my training here in 1993 and then commencing in 2001 as a Prep teacher.  Over the 20 years I have been at Beacy, I have loved being a part of the community and having an impact on the teaching, learning and wellbeing of all our students.  I chose to move into leadership as I knew that was where I would have more impact.

I love working with the staff at Beacy.  They are inspirational, always challenging and questioning best practice, keeping the students at the centre of all the decisions we make and a lot of fun.  We are so blessed to have these passionate teachers working with our students and I feel so fortunate that they are my staff.

The thing I missed the most when we move into flexible and remote learning is the students.  I make an effort to get to know your child – learn their name and make a connection with them.  One of my favourite parts of my job is standing on the gate and doing yard duty – having a chat with a child and letting them know that I am there for them is important to me.  During remote learning, I read stories to the Prep and grade 1’s, meet and work with captains and drop into zooms so I maintain my connections with the students.  Sorry for my painful videos but it gives me a sense of connection with the students.

I thank everyone for their support and messages of congratulations.  Hopefully we can all be together soon but whilst we are separated by these restrictions, enjoy the videos!

Father’s Day

I would like to wish all our dads and granddads a happy father’s day on Sunday.  I am hoping that your child is able to show you how grateful and appreciative they are to have you in their life.

Thank you to our Parents & Friends committee for purchasing gifts and our office staff to put together a ‘click and collect’ system to enable our families to come along and purchase gifts for their dads.  Great innovative thinking everyone!

I hope today is a good day for your family.  The sun is shining as I write this and we now have our playgrounds open so I am hoping you and your family are able to get outside and enjoy the fresh air!

On a side note, if anyone has any contacts of someone who would be willing to meet our students in a Zoom, please let me know. We have had a footballer talk to our grade 6 students the other day and it just made a Zoom a bit special. Feel free to let me know and we might be able to organise.
