Farewell to 2021!

Our final newsletter for 2021 – time to celebrate!

There is so much happening around the school and it is great that we have been able to be together for the last couple of weeks.

Now it is time to acknowledge some of the amazing people at Beacy.

Parents & Friends Committee

We have a wonderful team of parents who come together to provide experiences and fundraising events for our school.  They have had to pivot and change plans over the course of the year, and have done an amazing job. Thank you to Alison and the wonderful team for raising around $15,000 for our school. Let’s getting working on that bike shed.

Thank you to all our families and businesses who have supported P&F by donating to our raffles over the year.  We received amazing donations that were enjoyed by all our winners.

Xmas Raffle

School council

We would like to thank our School Council, for their support for our students, staff, and community.  Peter and the team have done a fabulous job.  This year we welcomed some new members to council and it was lovely to have been able to hold some meetings in person but the majority have been on Zoom. They have showed such great support to our teachers and community. They have also supported us in shifting our school to remote learning and giving us the voice of our parents.

Over the holidays you will see that we are replacing our fences around our school.  Next year we will be able to ensure that our grounds are closed during the school day.

OSHClub

We would like to thank Paige and the team at OSHClub.  Our students are very fortunate to have a great program to attend before and after school.  The Beaconsfield Centre was recently acknowledged for their program – receiving a Service Excellence Award for the State of Victoria.

Parents

We would like to acknowledge our parent community for their amazing effort over the year.  In a year where we had hoped we were done with lockdowns, they have done a fantastic job at supporting their child’s education and mental wellbeing.  Our parents have also been a great support for our staff over the year and we wish all our families a well-deserved school holiday.

Students

We would like to thank the students.  They are amazing people and we feel so privileged to work with them every day – on-site or remote learning.  Their strength and resilience is amazing, and we are all in good hands with them being our future.  They have all had different experiences navigating the year but have all achieved their own successes.

Staff

Lastly, thanks to all the staff at Beaconsfield Primary School.  This has been another challenging year in all our professional lives.  We were hoping that we would only experience circuit breakers but to have the long lockdown and quarantining was disappointing.  The staff have done an amazing job with supporting families with their mental wellbeing and child’s education.  They have put the priorities of their students first and did everything in their power to ensure a positive year for all.  We are so grateful for the amazing staff we have.

This week our staff played games with the grade 6 students – basketball and netball won by staff, football won by students.

Enjoy your holidays and see you in 2022!

Mrs Inglis’s Messages

Hello everyone,

It has been lovely that over the last couple of weeks, we have had some of our students attending excursions, with some more excursions and incursions to come.  It is nice that we are able to begin to offer these again to our students.

Transition

Over the last two weeks, we have had our 2022 Preps come and have a visit at our school.  We have many little brothers and sisters coming next year and they are very excited that it is now their turn to come to school.  Our grade 6 students were great helpers during the visit, making them feel comfortable to leave parents and be with new people.  They visited our classrooms and wetlands and played in the shed.

Our grade 6s have started to visit their secondary schools for 2022.  This is a great opportunity to start to get an idea of what it will be like – meeting new teachers, new students, working with timetables and exploring the buildings and layouts.  What an exciting experience for them!

Today we moved into our grades for 2022 for a visit.  Your child spent some time in their new grade – meeting their teachers and classmates.  They will come home with a letter from their teacher.  We will hold two more sessions for your child to become familiar with their new teacher and classmates, and to learn about and ask questions around next year.

COVID-19 restrictons

In our last newsletter we wrote about the new quarantining requirements.  Please be aware that students identified as primary close contacts will be required to undertake a PCR within 24 hours of notification, provide the result to the school and then return onsite.  If you missed the newsletter, it is written further down in the post.

Vaccination requirements for parents, carers and other adult visitors.

Parents, carers and other adult visitors who enter school buildings, work with students, attend events or gatherings at school must be fully vaccinated or have a valid medical exception. If they have not, there are some limited exceptions in which they can enter school buildings:

  • when attending to administer medical treatment to their own child when the treatment cannot be administered by the school
  • when attending to collect their child who is unwell and cannot leave the school building unaccompanied by their parent/carer.
  • when attending briefly and not involving any sustained contact with staff or students, for example, to collect a completed art project or similar.
  • attending school for drop-off and pick-up and not enter school buildings.

Parents, carers and other adult visitors will be required to check in using the Victorian Government QR Code Service and show evidence of vaccination.

End of 2021

We are nearly at the end of the year with only 2 more weeks to go.  Please note that our last day of school is Thursday 16th with a 3:30pm finish and Friday 17th is a pupil-free day.  We will have class celebrations in the last week and reports will be uploaded to the Parent Portal.  Please make sure you are able to log into the portal and if you have any issues with remembering log in details, please email the school.

Some parents may wish to see their child’s teacher to wish them ‘farewell’.  Please note that parents are allowed in our school grounds.  Our teachers will happily meet you outside the classroom for a chat.

Enjoy this hot weather!

Heidi Inglis

A Word from Mrs A

How nice it’s been to see our students heading off on excursions together. As we slowly ease ourselves into a “new normal” it is lovely for them to be having these experiences once again. Our students in grades 3 and 4 all looked exhausted but happy after their days out this week, and I know that the other students have fun activities coming up. Our community has been so accommodating in helping us to deal with the ever-changing situation we have faced over the last 2 years.

As we head into the “silly” season it can be easy to become distracted with all of the events and things we need to do. I just ask that we remember to keep a special eye out for each other and our children, especially when we are on or near the roads. We have been alerted to a couple of near misses involving bikes and car doors, among other things, so just remember to take extra care and show some increased patience and understanding during this time. It’s good practice to only allow children to enter and exit cars from the kerbside of the vehicle and please be a little patient with each other at the congested areas around the school.

Office News!

ABSENCES:

Can we please ask parents to update any absences on the Sentral app so our records can be finalised for the end of year.

LIBRARY BOOKS:

All Library books are now due back to the library. Please return all books as soon as possible.

FACE MASKS:

A reminder that students are required to wear face masks while in their classrooms. We recommend cloth material for them to wear as disposable masks do tend to break easily. Thank you so much for your support.
